while labeling faces in iPhoto I misspelled several names. As I continue to label faces the incorrect name as well as the correct name shows up in the list to choose from. Is there a way to edit the list of names and delete the incorrect one so that I won't make a mistake when choosing names. I have over 4,000 faces yet to label

No, sorry, there is no way to weed out the list of suggested faces names. The only way would be to start over with a new photos library, import all photos again, and start naming faces again.
This is has been a frequently requested feature, but so far there is no bug fix for this.
You may want to send feedback to Apple with a feature request - the more users request an improvement, the better will be our chances that this will be fixed in a future update:
